Savoring Summer: Sunshine, Smiles, and Celebrations
Summer is in full swing! The long, sun-drenched days bring more than just warmer (HOT) weather—they invite us all outside to explore and enjoy the season's simple joys together. These are perfect opportunities to spend time with family and friends.
Summer should be a time for laughter in the park, cooling off with icy treats, and soaking up the fun of outdoor games and community events. Whether we're dancing at a local festival, sharing lunch on a shaded picnic bench, or just enjoying the feeling of freedom that comes with summer break, these moments are more than recreation—they’re bridges to connection and belonging.
Looking for new ways to make memories this summer? St. Louis has so many outdoor gems to enjoy together:
🌳 Forest Park – With wide open spaces, walking trails, and free attractions like the St. Louis Zoo, it’s a perfect place for group outings or a peaceful picnic.
🏞️ Laumeier Sculpture Park – Explore nature and creativity side by side in this open-air museum filled with larger-than-life artwork and shaded paths.
🌼 Missouri Botanical Garden – Stroll through vibrant blooms and calming gardens while learning about plants from all over the world. Or, take in free, open-air concerts on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer as part of the annual Whitaker Music Festival.
This season also brings some wonderful holidays that remind us of the values we hold dear. Independence Day invites us to celebrate freedom and the importance of independence—recognizing that every individual deserves to live with dignity, purpose, and choice. Whether you're watching fireworks light up the night or gathering with friends for a backyard barbecue, take a moment to reflect on how we can build a more welcoming world for all.
I encourage everyone to stay safe and hydrated, wear sun protection, and look out for one another during the hotter days. More importantly, keep making space for joy—through every splash, smile, and shared adventure.
