Companionship

The dictionary defines a companion as a person or animal with whom one spends a lot of time. February 20 was Love Your Pet Day. We were very happy to welcome a 4 legged friend to our house a few months ago! And, she is a great companion.

We took Lula in for a family member who could no longer care for her. She needed to know that her beloved companion would have a good home. During her final days I hope that Pam found comfort and peace in the knowledge that Lula brought a lot of joy to our home.

As I type this with one hand, this high strung chihuahua sits on my lap in a rare moment of calm and restfulness, chin resting on one of my arms. I’m actually a big dog kind of gal, but Lula has shivered and yiped her way into my heart. We have figured each other out. . . for the most part. I know her favorite spots in the house and she knows she is not allowed to jump on our bed. I can distinguish between her whimpers that tell me she needs to go outside or she wants to play or she just wants me to sit down so she can cuddle on my lap.

Of course, people can also be great companions. And, it seems to me that companionship is part of our mission. Whether you are exploring the community, enjoying a meal, shopping, touring a museum, or playing or watching a sport, it’s more fun in the company of friends!

We are privileged to walk alongside people with disabilities to support them in building connections that enrich their lives through friendship and being engaged in community life. Through this LifeBridge family, many of our clients have developed lifelong friendships as they explored the wonderful things St. Louis has to offer. If you or someone you know would benefit from this, contact us. We would love to do life with you!
