The core of our mission is helping people build skills and supporting them so they can experience a meaningful and inclusive community life. We have not been able to do this since March when we suspended face-to-face services due to COVID-19.

Based upon discussions at our April 29, 2020 Board meeting, we determined that face-to-face services would likely continue to be suspended through June 30, 2020. However, we knew it was important to revisit the decision as information became available.

We spent several weeks gathering information and building a foundation for returning to normal. These steps included:

  • Surveying our clients about their desire to return to services
  • Defining important milestones that “tell us” risk continues to decline
  • Researching appropriate health and safety measures
  • Considering client readiness and skill building opportunities
  • Preparing program plans that provide flexibility and a stepped approached

Well, I am happy to report…

Last week we had a wonderful discussion with our Board about returning to pre-COVID-19 operations. In other words, offering face-to-face services to our clients! We are busy putting plans in place for July.

Of course, our first priority is the health and safety of our clients, employees, and the community at large. So, as we return to work, we will do it in phases with specific protocols in place for the office and for program services. Our programming with clients will be designed to promote healthy socialization.

This has not been an easy season and the transition back will probably get messy at times. But we have proven that we can overcome challenges; we are creative, flexible, and team oriented.
